Onijah Andrew Robinson, a 33-year-old woman from the United States, has finally made her way back home to New York City after spending over three months in Pakistan. Her journey to Pakistan started with a romantic adventure, but it ended with challenges that caught the attention of people worldwide.
In October 2023, Onijah traveled to Karachi, Pakistan, after meeting 19-year-old Nidal Ahmed Memon online. She was excited to marry Nidal and start a new life in Pakistan. However, her plans soon took a turn for the worse when Nidal allegedly abandoned her. Reports say that he left her due to opposition from his family, leaving her stranded and alone in a foreign country.
After Nidal’s disappearance, Onijah waited outside his apartment for almost 30 hours, hoping he would return. When it became clear he was not coming back, Onijah sought help at a local shelter. She eventually found refuge at a Chhipa shelter, a non-profit organization that provides support to those in need.

Her situation worsened, and Onijah had to be admitted to the psychiatric ward at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) in Karachi. She faced emotional distress after the abandonment and struggled to cope with her circumstances.
The case of Onijah’s ordeal gained significant attention after a local welfare organization, led by Zaffar Abbas, shared her story on social media. This led to the involvement of several authorities, including Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori. Governor Tessori helped Onijah extend her expired visa and worked with officials to arrange her return to the United States.
Initially, Onijah was reluctant to cooperate with the authorities and seemed to refuse to leave Pakistan. The police in Karachi had even considered deporting her and were waiting for instructions from the federal government. However, after much effort from the local government and the US embassy, the necessary arrangements were made for her voluntary departure.
Onijah left Pakistan on a flight to Dubai on February 8, 2025, at 10:40 p.m., before continuing her journey home to New York City. The US government coordinated her flight and made sure she returned safely.
This complicated story highlights the emotional and practical difficulties that can arise when traveling abroad, especially when personal relationships go wrong. Onijah’s case serves as a reminder of the importance of caution and support when venturing into unknown territories, particularly when it comes to matters of the heart.
With her ordeal now over, Onijah is finally back in the United States, where she can begin the process of healing and moving on from a chapter in her life that was filled with unexpected challenges.
