Karachi residents will continue to face gas shortages during Ramadan as Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has introduced a new load-shedding schedule. The company aims to ensure gas availability during crucial meal preparation times, despite ongoing supply challenges.
Even though winter has ended, uninterrupted gas supply remains a problem. Many households are struggling with low gas pressure and are forced to use expensive LPG cylinders as an alternative. The situation has raised concerns among citizens who rely on natural gas for daily cooking needs.
An SSGC spokesperson stated that efforts are being made to provide gas during Sehr and Iftar. However, due to the country’s declining gas reserves, the supply-demand gap continues to widen. According to reports, Pakistan’s natural gas reserves are decreasing by nearly 10% each year, making it difficult to maintain a stable supply.

To manage gas pressure, SSGC will implement “gas profiling” during specific hours. This means gas supply will be reduced from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM and again from 10:00 PM to 3:00 AM. During these hours, residents may experience little to no gas availability.
The new schedule allows gas supply between 3:30 PM and 10:00 PM for Iftar and dinner preparation. Similarly, gas will be available from 3:00 AM to 9:00 AM to facilitate Sehr and breakfast. Outside these hours, consumers will have to manage without gas.
SSGC has assured consumers that the schedule is designed to provide convenience during meal preparation times. However, many residents remain concerned about the impact of load shedding on daily life. The high cost of LPG and alternative cooking solutions add to the financial burden of families during Ramadan.
People are urging authorities to find long-term solutions to Pakistan’s energy crisis. The recurring issue of gas shortages needs urgent attention, as every year, citizens face difficulties, especially during the holy month. In the meantime, Karachi residents will have to plan their cooking schedules according to the announced gas availability times.
