The Sindh government has taken a big step to ensure that children of convicted prisoners get the education they deserve. This is the first time such an initiative has been introduced in Pakistan, and it aims to provide these children with free education from primary school to university.
At a special event held at Karachi Central Prison, Sindh’s Education Minister Sardar Ali Shah and Prisons Minister Hasan Ali Zardari announced the launch of this program. According to them, the children of 4,684 convicted prisoners in Sindh will receive full educational support. The program is a joint effort by the education and prisons departments, along with the Paigham-e-Pakistan initiative.
Minister Sardar Ali Shah emphasized that children should not suffer due to their parents’ mistakes. He stated that it is the state’s duty to provide education for all children, no matter what their background is. This initiative ensures that they can continue their studies in both government and private institutions.
To kick off the program, admission letters have already been given to 100 children, and data has been collected for 2,638 more. This project is not just about formal education—it also includes vocational training for juvenile inmates. Additionally, families of convicted prisoners will receive financial assistance, helping them avoid economic hardships and exploitation.
Prisons Minister Hasan Ali Zardari highlighted that this initiative will not only educate children but will also help in rehabilitating their entire families. The government aims to transform prisons into reform centers where inmates and their families get opportunities for a better future.
This groundbreaking move by the Sindh government sets a great example for the rest of the country. By ensuring that children get free education despite their parents’ circumstances, the government is taking an important step towards creating a more equal and educated society.
