The Sindh government has taken a major step toward women’s empowerment by introducing a free pink scooter scheme. This initiative aims to provide electric bikes to female students and working women, making transportation safer and more convenient for them.
Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Memon announced that women who already have a two-wheeler license will be eligible to receive these scooters. The distribution will be done through a monthly draw, ensuring fairness and equal opportunities.
For those who do not know how to ride a bike, the government will offer free training sessions conducted by female instructors. This step is designed to encourage more women to become independent in their daily commute.
Additionally, there is a restriction in place to ensure the scooters serve their intended purpose. Women who receive an electric bike under this scheme will not be allowed to sell it for the next seven years. This condition ensures that the scooters remain in use for personal mobility rather than being resold for profit.

Along with the pink scooter initiative, the Sindh government has also approved the purchase of more electric buses and double-decker buses for Karachi. These measures are part of a broader effort to improve public transportation in the province.
Minister Memon also addressed concerns about a previously promised federal government initiative. He stated that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had pledged to provide 180 electric buses for Sindh, but no funds have been received from the Centre to fulfill this commitment.
The pink scooter scheme stands out as a positive step in promoting women’s independence and mobility in Sindh. By providing free electric bikes and riding training, the government is working to create a more inclusive and accessible transport system for women.
