The Sindh government has officially announced two public holidays for Hindu employees to celebrate Holi, the festival of colors. According to the notification, the holidays will be observed on Thursday and Friday, ensuring that Hindu citizens can enjoy the festivities without work-related commitments.
Holi is a widely celebrated festival among the Hindu community in Sindh and across Pakistan. The decision to grant a two-day holiday highlights the government’s commitment to cultural and religious inclusivity. This move allows Hindu employees to fully engage in traditional Holi celebrations, including rituals, gatherings, and the iconic practice of throwing colored powders.
At the same time, neighboring India is preparing for Holi with strict guidelines, especially as the festival coincides with Ramadan. In Mumbai, authorities have issued advisories to ensure peaceful celebrations and maintain religious harmony. The police have implemented security measures, which will remain in place until March 18, 2025. The simultaneous observance of Holi and Ramadan has led officials to emphasize mutual respect among communities.
Meanwhile, in Pakistan, discussions are ongoing about the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr holidays. The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has predicted that Ramadan will last 29 days this year, with Eid-ul-Fitr expected on Monday, March 31, 2025. If the moon is sighted as expected, Eid holidays will likely begin on March 31. However, the government has yet to make a final announcement regarding the official holiday schedule.
The decision to grant two holidays for Holi reflects Sindh’s efforts to promote religious harmony and respect for diverse traditions. This step ensures that Hindu employees can celebrate without any work-related constraints, fostering a more inclusive society.
