
Indian cricket star Shubman Gill has taken the top spot in the ICC ODI batting rankings, ending Babar Azam’s long reign as the No.1 batsman. Gill’s rise comes after an outstanding performance in India’s recent 3-0 ODI series win against England. His consistent form helped him secure the No.1 ranking, making him one of the most dominant batsmen in the format.
Gill’s performances in the series were exceptional, with scores of 87, 60, and 112 across three matches. He ended the series as the leading run-scorer with a total of 259 runs at an impressive average of 86.33 and a strike rate of 103.60. His brilliant batting helped India secure a clean sweep against England and also propelled him to the top of the ICC rankings. Currently, Gill has 796 rating points, while Babar Azam has dropped to second place with 773 points.

The updated ICC rankings also feature Rohit Sharma, Heinrich Klaasen, and Daryl Mitchell in the top five. Mitchell moved up two places after delivering strong performances in the Pakistan tri-series, where New Zealand emerged victorious.
In the bowling rankings, Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana has taken the No.1 position, overtaking Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan. Theekshana’s exceptional spell of 4 for 40 against Australia helped him gain the top spot with 680 rating points. Rashid Khan has now dropped to second place with 669 points but remains a strong contender for reclaiming his position. Other notable bowlers in the top five include Namibia’s Bernard Scholtz, India’s Kuldeep Yadav, and Pakistan’s Shaheen Shah Afridi.
With the Champions Trophy now underway, the rankings are expected to change as players aim to showcase their skills on the grand stage. Stars like Rashid Khan, Shaheen Afridi, and Heinrich Klaasen will be looking to make a big impact and climb higher in the rankings.
