Former Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has raised concerns over the inconsistent selection of players in the national cricket team. He expressed his frustration, saying he does not understand why players are dropped and then suddenly brought back into the squad.
Akhtar, known for his strong opinions, emphasized that Pakistan has immense fast-bowling talent, but the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) needs to handle them properly. He specifically mentioned pacers Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Naseem Shah, stating that with proper guidance and workload management, they could become world-class stars.
“If you give me Haris, Shaheen, and Naseem, I will make them mega stars,” Akhtar confidently stated. He believes these young pacers have the potential to dominate international cricket, but frequent injuries and mismanagement are holding them back.
The former cricketer urged PCB to carefully manage their workload, ensuring they get the right balance of rest and match time. Overusing fast bowlers without proper recovery leads to injuries, which can shorten their careers. Akhtar stressed that the board should take responsibility and plan better for the long-term success of Pakistan’s pace attack.
His statements have sparked discussions among fans and cricket experts, with many agreeing that Pakistan needs a more stable and fair selection policy. Managing fast bowlers wisely can help Pakistan maintain its reputation as a powerhouse of pace bowling in world cricket.
