The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released its latest Test player rankings, bringing mixed news for Pakistan cricket fans. Middle-order batsman Saud Shakeel has achieved significant progress, while star player Babar Azam has dropped a few spots.
Saud Shakeel’s remarkable performance in the second innings of the Centurion Test against South Africa, where he scored a solid 84 runs, has earned him a three-place jump in the rankings. This improvement has landed him at a career-best sixth position among Test batters. His consistent performances continue to establish him as a crucial player for the national team.

On the other hand, Babar Azam, known for his brilliant batting skills, has slipped two spots and now finds himself at the 17th position. This marks a slight setback for the captain, who has often been the backbone of Pakistan’s batting lineup.
In the global rankings, England’s Joe Root continues to dominate, retaining his position as the top-ranked Test batter. England’s Harry Brook and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson hold the second and third positions, respectively. India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal has climbed to fourth, while Australia’s Travis Head has dropped to fifth.
Meanwhile, in the bowler rankings, Pakistan’s Nauman Ali has dropped one spot to ninth, and Shaheen Afridi has also faced a demotion, falling to 18th place. India’s Jasprit Bumrah remains at the top of the rankings for Test bowlers, showcasing his dominance in the format.
For all-rounders, India’s Ravindra Jadeja continues to lead the charts, while Australia’s Pat Cummins has shown significant improvement, moving up four places to claim the third position.
This latest ICC Test ranking update reflects both the opportunities and challenges facing Pakistan’s cricket stars. While Saud Shakeel’s rise is a reason to celebrate, Babar Azam and the bowling department will aim to bounce back stronger in upcoming matches.
