Former Pakistani cricket star Saqlain Mushtaq has thrown a bold challenge to India, suggesting that both teams should settle the debate of supremacy with a long bilateral series. His remarks come after Pakistan’s poor performance in the 2025 ICC Men’s Champions Trophy, where they failed to win a single match.
Pakistan’s struggles in the tournament, especially their six-wicket loss to India in the group stage, have raised concerns about the competitiveness of their cricket team. Many fans and experts now question whether the historic rivalry between India and Pakistan is still as intense as it once was.
Despite the setbacks, Saqlain Mushtaq is confident that Pakistan still has what it takes to compete with the best teams in the world. Speaking on a local TV channel, he stated that the only way to truly determine which team is superior is by playing a full series across all formats.

“If we ignore political issues, their players are great, and they play good cricket. But if India is truly the best, then play 10 Test matches, 10 ODIs, and 10 T20Is against Pakistan. That will make everything clear,” Saqlain said.
He emphasized that Pakistan, with the right preparation and decision-making, could give tough competition to India. However, given the tense relations between the two nations, a bilateral series remains highly unlikely.
Pakistan’s struggles in international tournaments have been evident in recent years, with disappointing performances in the 2023 ODI World Cup and the 2024 T20 World Cup. The Champions Trophy only added to their woes.
While a full-fledged series may not happen anytime soon, fans won’t have to wait too long to see the two teams face off again. India and Pakistan will meet in the 2025 Asia Cup, providing another chance for this iconic rivalry to come alive once more.
