The government of Punjab has launched an exciting new project aimed at improving the air quality in Lahore, which has long struggled with pollution and smog. The initiative focuses on planting a vast number of trees to create a cleaner, healthier environment for the city’s residents. This large-scale project involves turning 978 acres of land into a natural forest, which will not only provide fresh oxygen but also help in tackling the rising air pollution levels.
A key part of this initiative includes the development of a green belt along the River Ravi. This green space will feature 634,000 trees, designed to purify the air and reduce the harmful effects of smog. As of now, 144 acres of land have already been covered with 105,000 trees planted. The project is on its way to creating a green and vibrant city that will benefit both the environment and the people who live in it.
Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb has made it clear that tackling air pollution and improving the air quality of Lahore are top priorities for the government. She has called this tree-planting project a major milestone in the fight against smog and pollution, and one that will lead to a healthier and more sustainable environment for all.

The initiative, which is being carried out by the Punjab Department of Forests and the Lahore Development Authority (RODA), also encourages public participation. The government is urging citizens of Lahore to get involved in this important cause, whether through volunteering or supporting the project in any way they can. The success of this initiative depends on the collective effort of the government and the people, and together, they can make Lahore a cleaner and greener city.
This tree-planting project is not just about planting trees—it’s about creating a long-lasting solution to one of the city’s most pressing issues. By transforming large areas into forests, the initiative aims to significantly reduce the levels of smog and pollution in Lahore, making it a more breathable and pleasant place to live. As more trees are planted and the forest grows, the benefits for the environment and public health will continue to multiply.
