The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) of Punjab has approved a series of key development projects, worth a massive Rs39.73 billion, to improve road infrastructure in the region. This decision was made during the 63rd meeting of the PDWP, held under the leadership of the Planning and Development (P&D) Board Chairman, Barrister Nabeel Ahmad Awan. Senior officials, including Dr. Asif Tufail, Secretary of the P&D Board, and Chief Economist Masood Anwar, were also present at the meeting.
The approved projects will significantly enhance road connectivity in various districts of Punjab, aiming to boost both local transportation and overall economic activity. The initiative includes several major road construction and dualisation projects that will facilitate smoother travel and improve access to important locations.
One of the major projects approved is the construction of a new road from Bahawalpur (N-5) to the Jhangrah Sharqi Interchange (KLM) in Bahawalpur District, with an estimated cost of Rs4.933 billion. This new road will ease the traffic load and provide better connectivity for residents and travelers in the region.

In another significant move, the PDWP has greenlighted the dualisation of the road from Mian Channu (N-5) to Abdul Hakim Interchange (M-4), via Tulamba, in the Khanewal District. This project, costing Rs3.039 billion, will help accommodate growing traffic demands and improve travel efficiency across this busy route.
Additionally, the PDWP approved the dualisation of a crucial road stretching from Gujranwala to the M-2 Interchange at Kot Sarwar, passing through Hafizabad. With an estimated budget of Rs13.231 billion, this project will enhance the flow of traffic and reduce travel time between these key locations.
Another major development includes the dualisation of the Sargodha-Khushab-Mianwali Road in Khushab District, which has been approved at a cost of Rs11.806 billion. This project will significantly improve access to the industrial and agricultural zones in the region, providing better infrastructure for both business and daily commuters.
Lastly, the PDWP approved a project to widen and improve the road between Sialkot Cantt and Jassar Garrison, which crosses both Sialkot and Narowal districts. This road improvement initiative, which comes with a cost of Rs7.058 billion, will help increase traffic capacity and reduce congestion, benefiting both locals and long-distance travelers.
These road infrastructure projects are set to bring about significant improvements in Punjab’s transportation network, promoting economic growth, reducing travel times, and enhancing overall mobility. With the backing of the provincial government, these initiatives will play a crucial role in improving the daily lives of residents and supporting regional development for years to come.
