The Punjab government has introduced an incredible initiative to improve the quality of education in the province by granting Rs. 2.5 million to each government school. This generous funding aims to enhance infrastructure and facilities, ensuring better learning environments for students.
The grant will be used for essential upgrades such as building new classrooms, improving science labs, and painting or varnishing school premises. To ensure smooth utilization, the funds will be managed and approved by the School Management Councils. This step gives schools more control and flexibility to address their specific needs effectively.
In the past, schools were only allowed to spend up to Rs. 200,000, which often fell short of meeting their requirements. Additionally, school principals faced the burden of paying heavy taxes to access these funds. This new allocation of Rs. 2.5 million provides a much-needed relief and paves the way for substantial improvements.
It’s worth noting that this grant is a one-time provision and will be separate from the routine Non-Salary Budget (NSB) that schools already receive every three months. The NSB will continue as usual, ensuring schools have consistent financial support for ongoing needs.
By easing spending rules under the PREPA framework, the government has also simplified the process, allowing schools to use the funds more efficiently and effectively. This development is expected to bring positive changes, significantly benefiting students, teachers, and the broader community.
This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to prioritizing education and creating better opportunities for children across Punjab. With improved facilities and infrastructure, government schools are set to become more conducive to learning and growth.
