The Punjab government has announced new rules for its free laptop scheme, aiming to help students get access to digital learning. This decision was made in a high-level meeting led by Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat. The meeting included key officials such as Parliamentary Secretary for Higher Education Ajmal Chandio and Higher Education Department (HED) Secretary Dr. Farrukh Naveed.
The main focus of the meeting was to finalize the eligibility rules, the application process, and the timeline for the program. The officials were asked to speed up the process so that students can apply as soon as possible. They are also working on launching an online portal where students can submit their applications. Once the applications are reviewed, a merit list will be released.
To qualify for the scheme, students must meet specific academic criteria. BS students must have scored at least 65% in their intermediate exams, while medical students need a minimum of 80% marks. Initially, the laptops will be given to students in their first and second semesters.
In addition to the laptop scheme, the government is also preparing for the second phase of the Honhaar Scholarship Programme, which aims to support talented students financially. The education minister has instructed officials to ensure that all digital platforms for applications are completed without any delays.
