Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has taken a major step to improve the quality and safety of telecom equipment in the country. The authority has finalized new Telecom Equipment Standards Regulations, which are now waiting for approval from the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet. After ECC gives the green signal, the regulations will move to the Cabinet for final approval. Once approved, they will be officially announced and put into action.
These new regulations aim to create a fair and competitive telecom market while making sure that all telecom devices meet high standards for performance, safety, and durability. PTA has also set up a dedicated body called the Standards and Conformance Assurance Directorate. This department will focus on testing telecom equipment according to strict quality rules before it enters the market. This ensures that all telecom devices in Pakistan work efficiently without causing issues for users.
The regulations will apply to telecom companies, manufacturers, and importers. They cover important areas like electromagnetic compatibility, health and safety, and radio frequency communication. By enforcing these rules, PTA aims to prevent low-quality or faulty telecom products from being sold in Pakistan. Poor-quality devices can disrupt communication networks and pose risks to users.

The new rules will also help reduce technical problems caused by incompatible or low-standard telecom systems. With better equipment in the market, both consumers and businesses will experience smoother communication. These steps will not only improve the security of telecom networks but also boost the overall efficiency of the telecom sector in Pakistan.
PTA’s focus on quality assurance will ensure that all telecom equipment meets international standards. This move is expected to protect users from unreliable products while encouraging businesses to follow strict safety and performance guidelines. By introducing these regulations, PTA is taking a strong step toward modernizing and securing Pakistan’s telecom industry.
