Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, has urged India to engage in meaningful discussions to resolve the long-standing Kashmir dispute. Speaking at the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly, he reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Kashmiri people in their struggle for self-determination.
Sharif strongly condemned India’s actions in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), including extrajudicial killings, the detention of Kashmiri leaders, and efforts to change the region’s demographics. He emphasized that Pakistan has always viewed Kashmir as a vital part of its identity and will not remain silent while the people of the region face oppression.
He urged the international community, including global organizations and peace-loving nations, to put pressure on India to grant Kashmiris their right to self-determination, as promised under United Nations resolutions. He warned India against enforcing harsh laws that continue to suppress the Kashmiri population.

Sharif made it clear that Pakistan’s desire for peace should never be mistaken for weakness. He highlighted the country’s strong defense capabilities and assured that Pakistan will continue to stand by the Kashmiri people until their rights are fully recognized.
The speech was delivered as Pakistan observed Kashmir Solidarity Day, a national holiday marked every year on February 5. The day saw rallies, human chains, and demonstrations across the country to show support for Kashmir’s freedom struggle. A moment of silence was observed at 10 AM to honor the martyrs of Kashmir, with sirens sounding across the nation.
Major events took place in Islamabad, Mirpur, Kotli, and Bhimber, where large crowds gathered to express their solidarity with Kashmiris. President Asif Ali Zardari also called on the international community to fulfill its long-standing commitments to the Kashmiri people. He reminded the world that the United Nations made promises 78 years ago, and it is time to honor them.
