Pakistan is gearing up for the launch of 5G services, with the Ministry of IT and Telecom revealing a detailed timeline for its rollout. According to official plans shared in Parliament, telecom operators will begin deploying 5G technology in June 2025, paving the way for its availability across the country starting in July 2025.
The preparations for 5G are already underway. A consultant hired by the Spectrum Advisory Committee is expected to present key recommendations by February 2025. These recommendations will guide critical decisions on spectrum pricing, trading rules, and tax policies.
In March, the Spectrum Advisory Committee will finalize the necessary policy reforms based on these recommendations. These reforms aim to ensure a smooth and efficient rollout of 5G services while addressing the needs of telecom operators and consumers alike.
April 2025 is set to mark a significant milestone, as the federal government will officially approve the policy directive for 5G. Following this, the government plans to hold a spectrum auction in May. Several frequency bands will be auctioned, including 3500 MHz, 2600 MHz, 2300 MHz, and 700 MHz, which are crucial for the success of 5G networks.
The introduction of 5G in Pakistan is expected to revolutionize the digital landscape, offering faster internet speeds, improved connectivity, and the potential for innovation in various sectors like healthcare, education, and e-commerce. However, challenges such as policy approvals and smooth coordination among stakeholders must be addressed for a seamless launch.
As the June 2025 launch date approaches, all eyes will be on how effectively the government and telecom operators work together to bring this transformative technology to the country. With proper planning and execution, 5G can open new doors for Pakistan’s digital future.
