Pakistan is preparing to send its first astronaut into space, marking a historic moment for the country’s space program. This milestone is possible due to a collaboration between Pakistan’s Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) and the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA).
Training for the Mission
Under this partnership, two Pakistani astronauts will receive specialized training at the Astronaut Center of China. After rigorous training, one of them will be selected to travel to Tiangong, China’s space station, as a scientific payload specialist. The final selection process is expected to be completed by 2026.
Once in space, the chosen astronaut will carry out various scientific experiments in multiple fields, including medical sciences, aerospace, physics, space radiation, ecology, and astronomy. These studies will contribute to advancements in space technology and help improve scientific knowledge that could benefit life on Earth.
A Major Breakthrough for Pakistan
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called this agreement a groundbreaking step for Pakistan’s space exploration ambitions. He highlighted that this development reflects the country’s growing expertise in space science and technology. Over the years, Pakistan has made steady progress in launching satellites and contributing to global research.
Minister for Planning & Development Ahsan Iqbal also praised this collaboration, emphasizing that it will accelerate Pakistan’s technological innovation and expand its human spaceflight capabilities. He added that working with China on space missions will create new opportunities for future advancements in the country’s space program.
Strengthening Space Cooperation
Dr. Lin Xiqiang, the Director General of CMSA, expressed his appreciation for Pakistan’s participation in this project. He pointed out that space cooperation between the two countries is strengthening, opening doors for more joint missions in the future.
Meanwhile, SUPARCO Chairman Mohammad Yousuf Khan described this initiative as a major achievement for Pakistan. He encouraged professionals, researchers, and students to engage in the program and contribute to the country’s space advancements.
