The Pakistan Navy has once again achieved a significant milestone by taking over the command of the Combined Task Force 151 (CTF-151), a multinational naval force that works to ensure peace and stability at sea. This marks the eleventh time that Pakistan Navy has been entrusted with this important role. The handover ceremony took place at the Combined Maritime Headquarters in Bahrain, where Pakistan Navy’s Commodore Sohail Azmie was officially appointed as the new commander of the force.
The CTF-151 is an international coalition focused on combating piracy and terrorism in the seas, making it a key player in promoting security across the waters. Pakistan Navy’s involvement in this task force underscores its ongoing commitment to maintaining peace in the region. Previously, the command was held by the Turkish Navy, but now Pakistan Navy has taken over the leadership role, continuing to collaborate with other countries’ naval forces for the greater good of maritime security.
Commodore Sohail Azmie, in his address during the ceremony, assured that the Pakistan Navy will continue to work alongside its international partners to achieve the common goal of peace and security in the maritime domain. His words emphasized the importance of teamwork and coordination among the various nations participating in the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF), which CTF-151 is a part of.

Not only did Commodore Azmie highlight Pakistan Navy’s contribution to maritime security efforts, but he also extended his appreciation to the outgoing commander, Rear Admiral Rustu Sezer from Turkey, for his hard work and the success of the task force during his tenure. The collaboration and commitment displayed by the previous commander’s team were praised for achieving the mission objectives effectively.
Pakistan’s Navy has consistently shown a high level of dedication to the security of the seas, which is reflected in its repeated leadership positions within multinational naval task forces. This is the eleventh time Pakistan has taken command of CTF-151, showcasing the trust and respect it has earned from its international partners. Just last year, Pakistan Navy took command of another important naval force, CTF-150, for the thirteenth time. These achievements are a testament to Pakistan Navy’s strong and enduring role in ensuring peace and stability on the world’s oceans.
The mission of CTF-151 remains crucial in the fight against piracy and terrorism, which continue to be significant threats to global maritime trade and security. Pakistan Navy’s active involvement in this mission helps safeguard the world’s sea lanes, contributing to safer and more secure shipping routes for international trade.
Through these continuous efforts, Pakistan Navy remains a key player in fostering global cooperation for maritime security. Its role as a leader in these multinational task forces highlights its capabilities and reinforces the importance of shared responsibility in maintaining peace and stability across the world’s oceans.
