The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made a significant change in its plans for the upcoming tri-nation ODI series involving Pakistan, New Zealand, and South Africa. Originally planned for Multan, the matches will now take place at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium and Karachi’s National Bank Stadium. This decision is part of the PCB’s efforts to prepare for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
The relocation is a strategic move to test the newly upgraded facilities at these two major venues. Both stadiums are undergoing renovations to meet international standards and ensure an exceptional experience for players, officials, and fans. The improvements are expected to be completed by the end of January, just in time for the tri-series.
The upgrades at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore include increasing the seating capacity to 35,000 with more comfortable seats, installing 480 high-quality LED lights for better broadcasts, and adding two large digital replay screens to enhance the viewing experience. Additionally, a new hospitality enclosure for players and officials will be operational soon.
Similarly, Karachi’s National Bank Stadium has also seen significant improvements. These include the installation of 350 LED lights for top-notch visibility during matches, new digital replay screens, and upgraded hospitality areas. To ensure a comfortable experience for fans, 5,000 new chairs have been added.
While the focus is on Lahore and Karachi, the PCB is also making upgrades at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. The venue will soon have 10,000 new chairs, better hospitality boxes, and digital replay screens, bringing it up to international standards.
This move demonstrates Pakistan’s commitment to hosting world-class cricket events. By showcasing the enhanced facilities during the tri-series, the PCB aims to reassure cricket fans and international stakeholders of its readiness for the prestigious ICC Champions Trophy in 2025.
