The Government of Pakistan has approved a significant road project aimed at improving access for Sikh pilgrims traveling to Kartarpur. This project, which connects Narowal to Sialkot, is designed to make the journey smoother and more convenient for visitors heading to the revered Kartarpur Sahib.
Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal, inaugurated the project on Sunday. The 1.54-kilometer road project will cost Rs. 200 million and is expected to be completed within five months.
This new road will bring multiple benefits to the region. Not only will it provide a direct and improved route for Sikh pilgrims, but it will also help resolve the persistent traffic congestion near Narowal Railway Station. Additionally, the project includes essential upgrades such as road widening and enhancements to the sewerage system, making the surrounding areas more accessible and better equipped to handle growing traffic.
The Kartarpur road project holds great promise for the local economy as well. Its construction is expected to create employment opportunities and boost commercial activities in the area. With more pilgrims visiting Kartarpur, local businesses and vendors will likely experience an uptick in activity, further supporting regional development.
Kartarpur Sahib, a cherished site for Sikhs worldwide, holds historical and spiritual significance as the place where Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism, spent the last years of his life.
