As 2025 approaches, Pakistanis might face another challenge in the form of rising fuel costs. The government is expected to announce changes to petroleum product prices, with adjustments taking effect on January 1, 2025. These changes could impact daily expenses for individuals and businesses alike, as diesel and kerosene oil prices are projected to increase.
According to reliable sources, petrol prices are likely to remain stable at Rs 252.10 per litre for the next two weeks. However, high-speed diesel prices are expected to see a significant hike of over Rs 4 per litre, bringing the new price to Rs 259.38. Kerosene oil may also witness a slight increase, rising by over Rs 1 to Rs 162.66 per litre. On the other hand, light diesel oil prices are expected to remain unchanged at Rs 148.95 per litre.
This potential increase follows recent adjustments in December 2024. Petrol was priced at Rs 252.10 per litre, while high-speed diesel saw a reduction of Rs 3.05, lowering it to Rs 255.38 per litre. Kerosene oil was priced at Rs 161.66 per litre, and light diesel oil decreased by Rs 2.78, standing at Rs 148.95 per litre.
The anticipated price hike is expected to intensify the financial burden on citizens already dealing with inflation and economic challenges. Diesel, a key fuel for transportation and industry, plays a significant role in determining the cost of goods and services. Any increase in its price can ripple across the economy, impacting transportation costs and, ultimately, consumer prices.
After consulting with the Prime Minister on New Year’s Eve, government officials are set to decide on the new fuel prices. While petrol prices may remain steady, the rise in diesel and kerosene costs could affect both urban and rural populations, as these fuels are critical for transportation and heating.
As the announcement looms, the nation waits to see how the government will balance economic pressures with the need to relieve its citizens. For many, the potential price hikes will mark yet another challenge in their daily lives as they navigate the economic landscape of 2025.
Stay tuned for official updates as the government finalizes its decision on fuel prices in the coming days.
