The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced exciting updates for cricket fans, including renaming some enclosures at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi to honor legendary players and significant upgrades to the stadium’s infrastructure.
In a tribute to former cricket captains Shahid Afridi and Younis Khan, two enclosures are being renamed. The iconic Quaid Enclosure will now be called the Shahid Afridi Enclosure, while the Majid Khan Enclosure will be renamed the Younis Khan Enclosure. Additionally, the Zaheer Abbas Enclosure is being renamed the Nazar Mohammad Enclosure, reflecting the PCB’s effort to celebrate cricket’s rich history in Pakistan. Each of these enclosures has a seating capacity of 1,050, making them a central part of the stadium experience for fans.
Further adjustments are being made to the Hanif Mohammad and Fazal Mahmood enclosures to ensure the facility remains modern and fan-friendly. The PCB is also introducing two new VIP enclosures in the newly reconstructed stadium building to elevate the match-day experience for spectators.
Construction work on the National Bank Stadium is moving swiftly, with the far-end building already showing remarkable progress. Three floors have been completed, and work on the top floor is ongoing. The Prime Minister’s Office within the stadium is also nearing completion, with only cleaning and final touch-ups remaining. Moreover, two state-of-the-art VVIP stands are being prepared at the ground level as part of the upgrades.
Bilal Chohan, the project director, has confirmed that the reconstruction of the stadium will be completed by January 31, 2025. This upgraded venue is set to host thrilling matches during an upcoming eight-team international tournament.
The tournament, scheduled from February 19 to March 9, 2025, promises exciting cricket action across Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Dubai. Group A features Pakistan, India, New Zealand, and Bangladesh, while Group B includes Afghanistan, South Africa, England, and Australia. The opening match will see Pakistan face New Zealand on February 19 in Karachi. Cricket fans worldwide are eagerly waiting for the much-anticipated Pakistan vs. India clash on February 23 in Dubai.
With these updates, the National Bank Stadium in Karachi is set to become a landmark not just for its rich history but also for the modern facilities and amenities it offers to players and fans alike. The PCB’s efforts are a testament to their commitment to promoting cricket and creating memorable experiences for spectators.
