The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced an upgraded version of the B-Form (birth registration certificate) to strengthen identity protection for children over the age of 10. This new initiative, announced by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, incorporates state-of-the-art security features to address identity-related challenges.
For the first time, the B-Form will include the child’s photograph and fingerprints as mandatory elements. These enhancements aim to combat the misuse of identity information, tackle issues like fake identity cards and illegal passports, and curb human trafficking. The introduction of this advanced B-Form is a crucial step toward ensuring the safety and authenticity of personal records.
The new B-Form will be rolled out gradually, starting January 15. Parents or legal guardians are required to accompany the child to the nearest NADRA center to initiate the process. Key documents needed for the application include the child’s computerized birth certificate and the parent’s computerized identity card. Once the required steps are completed, NADRA will issue the updated B-Form with the child’s photograph and fingerprints.
An important update is that the previous B-Form, which lacked these biometric features, will no longer be accepted. The updated B-Form will now be a mandatory requirement for applying for new passports, ensuring stricter verification protocols for travel documents.
Looking ahead, NADRA has plans to introduce more reforms to enhance identification processes. Future updates may include advanced features like iris scans, further ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the system. These identification measures will be integrated with provincial Civil Registration Management Systems to streamline and centralize records.
Efforts are also underway to improve NADRA’s digital services. Enhancements to the Pak ID mobile app are being developed, and a long-term goal is to issue digital IDs for all Pakistani citizens, simplifying access to various government services.
This step by NADRA demonstrates a significant leap toward modernizing identity systems in Pakistan, ensuring secure and efficient record management for future generations.
