
HBL Microfinance Bank (HBL MfB) has announced that Maya Inayat Ismail is now the new Chairperson of the Board of Directors, taking over from Rayomond H. Kotwal. With her deep experience in financial services and a passion for financial inclusion, she is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the bank’s mission.
A Leader with a Strong Financial Background:
Maya Inayat Ismail has been part of HBL Microfinance Bank’s journey for a long time. She played a key role in shaping its predecessor, FMFB, the first microfinance bank in Pakistan. This bank was established to fulfill the vision of His Highness the Aga Khan, aiming to provide financial access to underprivileged communities.
Since 2016, Maya has been an active Board Member of HBL MfB and has also led the FISC Committee. Her expertise lies in strategic partnerships, financial services, and policy-making, all focused on helping communities grow financially. With over 25 years of experience, she is well-equipped to guide the bank toward more progress.
Appreciation for the Outgoing Chairman:
Rayomond H. Kotwal, the outgoing Chairman, expressed his gratitude for serving in the role and highlighted the achievements made during his time. He stated, “It has been an honor to serve as the Chairman of HBL Microfinance Bank. I am proud of what we have achieved together in driving financial inclusion across Pakistan. I am confident that Maya Inayat Ismail’s appointment will usher in a new era of innovation for the Bank.”
A Historic Milestone in Leadership:
Sultan Ali Allana, Chairman of HBL, also shared his thoughts on this leadership change. He mentioned that Maya’s appointment is groundbreaking, as she is the first woman to lead an Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED) institution. This reflects a commitment to diversity and breaking leadership barriers.
He further expressed appreciation for Rayomond H. Kotwal and his contributions, stating that under his leadership, the bank had flourished and expanded its financial inclusion mission.
