Singapore, a thriving island nation in Southeast Asia, is known for its strong economy and excellent job opportunities for both locals and foreigners. With a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of over $501 billion, the country offers various work visa options to individuals from around the world, including Pakistani citizens, who wish to build their careers in Singapore.
To work in Singapore, foreign nationals must meet the specific conditions outlined for work permits. One of the most common permits is the Employment Pass (EP), designed for professionals in managerial or executive roles. Starting January 2025, the Singapore government has introduced new requirements for obtaining this pass.
The key update includes an increase in the minimum salary threshold. For most sectors, candidates must now earn at least $5,600 per month. However, for roles in the financial services industry, the minimum salary is higher, set at $6,200 per month.
Additionally, applicants must pass a competency-based evaluation known as COMPASS (Complementary Assessment Framework). This test evaluates candidates based on their qualifications, professional experience, and the economic value of the company that is hiring them.
These changes aim to ensure that skilled professionals are selected for roles in Singapore, contributing to the country’s continued economic growth. While the updated criteria may appear stringent, they reflect Singapore’s commitment to maintaining a high standard of professionalism and workplace efficiency.
For individuals planning to work in Singapore, understanding and meeting these updated requirements will be essential for a successful application process.
