Lahore has taken a big step towards eco-friendly public transport with the launch of its first electric bus service. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz inaugurated the project, calling it a major achievement in the journey towards a “Green Punjab.”
Affordable and Safe Travel for Everyone
The newly launched electric buses aim to provide a cheaper and safer mode of transport for Lahore’s residents. The fare has been set at an affordable Rs. 20, making it budget-friendly for daily commuters. Additionally, students, senior citizens, and differently-abled individuals can travel for free using a special electric bus card.
Modern Features for a Comfortable Ride
These buses are designed to offer a modern travel experience. Passengers can enjoy free internet access and charging facilities while commuting. The initiative not only ensures a comfortable journey but also promotes the use of clean energy.

Expansion Plans in the Pipeline
Currently, 27 electric buses are running in Lahore, but the project is set to grow further. The Chief Minister announced that an additional 500 electric buses will arrive in August, expanding the fleet to cover more areas. Furthermore, Metrobus services will be launched in Faisalabad and Gujranwala in the next financial year, providing better transport options in these cities.
More Eco-Friendly Initiatives for Students
Maryam Nawaz also reiterated the government’s commitment to sustainable transportation by announcing the provision of 100,000 modern electric bikes for students. This move will not only reduce travel costs for students but also contribute to a cleaner environment.
