Karachi police have introduced new measures to address the growing problem of aerial firing during wedding celebrations. These steps aim to ensure public safety and hold wedding hall administrations accountable for incidents near their premises.
Under the new directives, if any aerial firing occurs during events hosted at wedding halls, the administrations will face legal consequences. District-level police officers have been instructed to strictly enforce these policies, with station house officers (SHOs) tasked to notify wedding hall managements beforehand about the new rules.
Additionally, individuals involved in aerial firing will face immediate legal action. To create public awareness, Karachi police are putting up banners throughout the city, highlighting the dangers and consequences of this reckless behavior.
Karachi has witnessed numerous injuries and even deaths caused by aerial firing. Recent New Year celebrations were marred by such incidents, leaving at least 29 people injured, including women and children. Areas such as Liaquatabad, Tariq Road, Shah Faisal, Orangi Town, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Azizabad, and Korangi reported injuries due to celebratory gunfire.
For example, Liaquatabad saw three people injured, while Tariq Road and Shah Faisal recorded injuries to two women. Similarly, Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Orangi Town reported two injured victims each. Azizabad witnessed a child being harmed, and areas like Gulzar-e-Hijri and Korangi No. 6 reported multiple injuries from stray bullets.
Aerial firing poses a severe threat to public safety, turning joyful celebrations into tragedies. The Karachi police are committed to tackling this dangerous trend and ensuring a safer environment for all. These new measures signal a strict approach to hold both individuals and wedding hall administrations accountable, while spreading awareness about the risks associated with this irresponsible behavior.
Through consistent enforcement and public education, authorities hope to significantly reduce such incidents and safeguard Karachi’s residents.
