The Sindh government has officially restricted heavy dumpers from operating in Karachi during the daytime. These large vehicles can now only move within the city between 11:00 PM and 6:00 AM to help reduce traffic congestion and prevent road accidents.
Major Decision to Improve Traffic Flow:
This decision was taken in a high-level emergency meeting led by Chief Secretary Sindh Asif Hyder Shah. Important officials, including Sindh Police IG, Karachi Commissioner, Additional IG, Secretary Transport, and DIG Traffic, attended the meeting to discuss Karachi’s ongoing traffic issues.
To ensure safety, the authorities have made physical verification of heavy vehicles and their drivers mandatory. Additionally, all commercial vehicles must now obtain a QR Code-certified certificate from the Transport Department to operate legally.

Strict Measures for Safer Roads:
The Sindh Solid Waste Management Board has been given a three-month deadline to shift all operations to nighttime, reducing road blockages during peak hours. In addition, the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board tankers will undergo a complete inspection within a month to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
Authorities are also focusing on motorcycle safety since bikers make up 65% of all vehicles in Karachi and are involved in 55% of road accidents. Strict action will be taken against helmet law violations and reckless driving to improve road safety.
Vehicle Inspection System to Be Launched:
The government is set to introduce a Vehicle Inspection and Certification System (VICS) to ensure all vehicles meet road safety standards. Additionally, the Traffic Engineering Bureau is being revived to study and implement further improvements in Karachi’s traffic system.
These measures aim to create safer roads, smoother traffic flow, and better transport management in Karachi. The Sindh government’s initiative is expected to bring long-term positive changes for the city’s daily commuters.
