Karachi and much of Sindh are going through a chilly cold wave right now, and it looks like it will stay for a few more days. On January 9, 2025, Karachi recorded a chilly minimum temperature of 8.5°C, and the city felt even colder because of strong winds. These cooler-than-usual conditions are expected to last for the next three days, with the temperature possibly dipping as low as 8°C to 9°C at night. During the day, the temperature may rise to a maximum of 25°C to 27°C, which is still quite mild compared to what many areas are facing.
The weather in Karachi feels especially cold because of the chilly winds blowing in from Balochistan, which make it feel like the temperature is 2 to 4 degrees lower than what the thermometer shows. Even though the winds aren’t very strong, they make the cold more intense, especially in the early mornings.
On January 9, Karachi’s Jinnah Terminal recorded an even lower temperature of 6.2°C, making it the coldest spot in the city. Other areas of Karachi had slightly warmer readings: Gulistan-e-Jauhar was at 7.5°C, Mauripur saw 10°C, and Bin Qasim had a temperature of 11°C.
In rural Sindh, things were even colder. The town of Mithi experienced a freezing 0°C temperature, and other parts of the region like Sanghar, Tharparkar, and Umerkot are also seeing colder weather than usual.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), while the cold and dry weather will continue in Karachi, light rain or drizzle is expected in some parts of Sindh, including Sanghar, Tharparkar, and Umerkot by tomorrow evening or night. Despite the rain, the overall cold wave is expected to stick around for a few more days, so residents in Karachi and Sindh should continue to stay warm and be ready for the chilly conditions.
