India emerged victorious in the Champions Trophy 2025 final after defeating New Zealand by four wickets in a nail-biting match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Led by captain Rohit Sharma, the Indian team showcased an outstanding performance, chasing down a 252-run target with six balls to spare.
The chase started on a strong note for India, with openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill putting up a solid 105-run partnership. However, Gill departed after scoring 31 off 50 balls, and soon after, star batter Virat Kohli was dismissed for just one run. Despite the quick wickets, Rohit Sharma played a captain’s knock, scoring a crucial 76 off 83 balls.
Shreyas Iyer (48 off 62) and Axar Patel (29 off 40) kept the chase on track, while KL Rahul held his nerve towards the end with an unbeaten 34. Hardik Pandya also played a vital role, contributing 18 runs in a crucial partnership with Rahul. The final touches were given by Ravindra Jadeja, ensuring India secured the title with an over to spare.
New Zealand’s Fighting Total
Earlier in the match, New Zealand, after winning the toss and electing to bat first, managed to post a competitive total of 251/7 in 50 overs. The innings saw a steady start from Will Young (15 off 23) and Rachin Ravindra (37 off 29), but they lost wickets at regular intervals.
Daryl Mitchell played an anchor role, scoring a hard-fought 63 off 101 balls. He was supported by Glenn Phillips, who contributed 34 off 52 balls, while Michael Bracewell provided a late boost with an unbeaten 53. However, India’s disciplined bowling, led by Varun Chakravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav (both taking two wickets each), restricted New Zealand from crossing the 260-mark.
India’s Road to Glory
India reached the final after an intense semi-final against Australia, where they secured a four-wicket victory. New Zealand, on the other hand, booked their place in the final by defeating South Africa in Lahore.
With this victory, India once again asserted their dominance in world cricket, lifting the prestigious Champions Trophy and delighting millions of fans worldwide.
