Fitrana and Fidya are important charitable donations in Islam, especially during Ramadan. These contributions help the less fortunate and allow Muslims to fulfill their religious duties. For 2025, the minimum Fitrana amount has been set at Rs. 240 per person.
What is Fitrana?
Fitrana, also known as Zakat al-Fitr, is a small charity that every Muslim must give before Eid-ul-Fitr. It is meant to purify one’s fast and help those in need celebrate Eid with dignity. Every eligible Muslim, including children, must give this amount before Eid prayers.
What is Fidya?
Fidya is a form of compensation for those who cannot fast due to valid reasons like illness or old age. Instead of fasting, they must feed a poor person for each missed fast. The Fidya amount varies based on the type of food donated:
- Wheat: Rs. 240
- Barley: Rs. 700
- High-Quality Dates: Rs. 4,000
- Premium Raisins: Rs. 6,400
Importance of Paying on Time
Religious scholars, including Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman, stress the importance of paying Fitrana and Fidya on time. This ensures that the needy receive help before Eid, making their celebrations easier. Those who can afford to give more are encouraged to do so.
What is Kaffara?
Kaffara is required when someone deliberately breaks a fast without a valid reason. To compensate, they must either fast for 60 consecutive days or feed 60 underprivileged people with two meals each.
