The district administration of Jamshoro has announced a public holiday on February 17 to accommodate the large number of devotees attending the Urs of Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar. This annual spiritual event takes place in Sehwan and attracts thousands of followers from all over the country.
As part of the holiday announcement, all government offices, schools, and public institutions in Sehwan will remain closed. This decision aims to ease the movement of pilgrims and ensure smooth arrangements for the religious gathering.
The Urs of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar is famous for its traditional celebrations, including dhamal (spiritual dance), qawwali (devotional music), and religious ceremonies held at the saint’s shrine. The event holds deep cultural and spiritual significance, bringing together people from diverse backgrounds to participate in prayers and festivities.
To ensure safety and proper arrangements, authorities have introduced special security and administrative measures. Over 5,000 police officers will be deployed across the area, supported by specialized units such as the Counter-Terrorism Department, the Bomb Disposal Squad, and the Rapid Response Force. These teams will work together to maintain peace and protect the visitors.
Security at the shrine has been tightened with the installation of walk-through gates and metal detectors at entry points. Digital biometric verification will also be conducted to monitor and regulate the flow of visitors. Additionally, a network of CCTV cameras has been set up to enhance surveillance, while intelligence teams will remain active to respond to any security concerns.
Apart from security, the administration has made necessary arrangements for medical assistance and traffic control. Medical camps have been established to provide emergency healthcare services, ensuring that devotees receive timely medical attention if needed. Traffic management measures have also been implemented to prevent congestion and facilitate smooth transportation during the event.
The Sindh government has played a key role in organizing this event by finalizing all security and administrative plans in advance. With thousands of people expected to visit Sehwan, these preparations aim to create a safe and organized environment for everyone attending the Urs.
The Urs of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar is not just a religious gathering; it is a symbol of unity, peace, and devotion. Every year, the shrine becomes a center of spiritual energy, where people come together to seek blessings and celebrate the teachings of the great Sufi saint. The public holiday on February 17 will allow more people to participate in this sacred event and honor the legacy of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar.
