The administration in Rawalpindi has taken firm action against the sale of plastic shopping bags as part of an ongoing effort to combat environmental pollution. Authorities have confiscated a massive 1754 kilograms of plastic bags during the operation.
According to ARY News, Assistant Commissioner Hakim Khan revealed that sellers involved in distributing plastic bags faced fines amounting to Rs. 85,000. Additionally, three wholesale shops dealing in plastic bags were sealed to prevent further violations.
This action comes in response to strict environmental regulations, which prohibit the use and sale of plastic shopping bags with a thickness of less than 75 microns. To comply with the rules, 41 wholesalers have already registered with the Department of Environment.
