The Chairman of the Karachi Board of Intermediate Education (BIEK), Ameer Qadri, has been dismissed from his position after a major controversy erupted regarding the recent examination results. The decision to remove him was approved by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, who oversees the education department.
A notification revealed that Qadri’s dismissal follows allegations of misconduct, including an unauthorized foreign trip for which an explanation has been demanded. Sharf Ali, who is currently the Chairman of the Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK), has been given temporary charge of BIEK.
This controversy has left many students in despair, especially those from the pre-engineering and pre-medical groups. A large number of students failed their exams, leading to widespread dissatisfaction. Many students have now submitted scrutiny requests, hoping for a review of their results.
Students expressed frustration, claiming that the results were unfairly harsh. Some said they had achieved 80% to 85% in their matric exams but were shockingly given less than 50% marks in their intermediate results. Many students also reported failing in multiple subjects, which they believe is unjust.
The issue of irregularities in exam results is not new. Similar controversies arose last year when many students were declared unsuccessful. A special committee formed to investigate found that exam results for key subjects such as English, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics had been tampered with.
The committee’s findings revealed significant mismanagement, holding eight officials of the Karachi intermediate board responsible for the tampering. Former chairmen, including Dr. Saeedudin and Naseem Memon, were also implicated. The Sindh government has directed the anti-corruption department to take action against those involved.
This situation has caused immense disappointment among students, many of whom feel their dreams have been crushed. The authorities now face increasing pressure to resolve the issue and ensure transparency in future examinations.
This latest development raises concerns about the overall management of educational boards in Karachi and emphasizes the urgent need for reforms to restore trust in the system. Students and their families hope that justice will be served, and such controversies can be prevented in the future.
