Pakistan has won praise for successfully hosting the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, marking the return of a major ICC event to the country after 29 years. British Deputy High Commissioner Lance Domm applauded Pakistan’s efforts, calling it a “fantastic tournament,” despite both Pakistan and England being eliminated early.
In an interview, Domm expressed his disappointment that his favorite teams couldn’t progress further in the competition. “I was really hoping for a Pakistan-England final, but unfortunately, that’s not going to happen,” he said. However, he remained optimistic, adding, “It’s all about confidence. I’m sure both teams will bounce back stronger in the future.”
Domm had the opportunity to witness the excitement firsthand when he attended the Pakistan-New Zealand match in Karachi. He praised the electric atmosphere inside the stadium, describing it as “fantastic” despite the result not going in England’s favor. He emphasized that Pakistan did a remarkable job in organizing the event, proving itself as a capable host on the international stage.
Apart from discussing the tournament, Domm highlighted how cricket serves as a powerful tool to unite nations. He pointed out the strong cricketing bond between Pakistan and England, stating that the love for the game brings people together regardless of rivalries on the field. He also recalled his childhood memories of watching Pakistan’s legendary bowler Wasim Akram dominate England’s batting lineup. “I remember watching Wasim Akram as a kid. He was fantastic, and he always made it tough for England’s batsmen,” he said with admiration.
Despite the early exits of Pakistan and England, the Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan has been a memorable event. Fans from different countries came together to celebrate their shared passion for cricket, making it a tournament to remember. Domm’s words of appreciation reinforce Pakistan’s successful return to hosting global cricket events, setting the stage for more international tournaments in the future.
