Pakistan’s cricket team may soon see a change in its fast-bowling lineup after Haris Rauf suffered an injury during the ongoing tri-nation series. Reports suggest that Akif Javed, a rising pace star, is the top contender to replace him in the squad.
Haris Rauf picked up a muscular sprain in his lower chest wall during Pakistan’s match against New Zealand on February 8. While his injury is not considered serious, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to take a cautious approach. As a result, Rauf will miss Pakistan’s next game against South Africa on February 12. However, he is expected to recover in time for the ICC Champions Trophy, which begins on February 19 in Karachi.

To cover Rauf’s absence, the PCB is considering Akif Javed as his replacement, according to reports from ARY News. The selection committee also reviewed other fast bowlers, such as Mohammad Wasim Jr. and Mohammad Ali, but Akif Javed’s recent performances in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) have made him the frontrunner. The young pacer impressed in the BPL, where he finished with 20 wickets, making him one of the top bowlers in the tournament. His ability to generate express pace and trouble even the most experienced batters has earned him attention.
Akif Javed’s inclusion would give Pakistan an extra pace option, strengthening the bowling attack. However, he may have to compete with Faheem Ashraf for a spot in the playing XI. Even if he does not get an immediate place in the team, his current form suggests a promising future for him in Pakistan’s cricket setup.
Pakistan fans will be eagerly waiting to see how the team adjusts to Rauf’s absence and whether Akif Javed can make an impact if given the opportunity. With the Champions Trophy just around the corner, Pakistan will aim to keep their squad in top shape for the highly anticipated tournament.
