Ahmed Shehzad, the Pakistani cricketer, recently made headlines with bold statements about his experiences in cricket. Speaking on the podcast “Excuse Me with Ahmad Ali Butt,” he opened up about facing jealousy and rivalries within the cricketing community.
Ahmed Shehzad claimed that some senior players in the national team were envious of him because of his looks and sense of style. He explained that in Pakistan, players are often judged not just on their performance but also on their appearance, which made things challenging for him. “I wasn’t the only one,” Shehzad shared. “Other presentable players also faced similar resentment.”
He highlighted that, as a representative of the country, he made an effort to groom himself to project a positive image. However, this came at a personal cost. “I paid a heavy price for this,” Shehzad said, emphasizing how his dedication to presenting a polished image led to challenges in his career.
In the podcast, Ahmed Shehzad also discussed his thoughts on Babar Azam, the current cricket superstar and former captain of Pakistan’s national team. While clarifying that he holds no personal grudge, Shehzad criticized Babar’s performance and leadership, questioning his consistency in key matches.
Shehzad argued that Babar’s success as a batsman has largely been against weaker teams, calling them “B, C, and D teams.” He pointed out that Babar struggled during high-stakes matches in major ICC tournaments, which, according to him, raised questions about his overall performance.
Additionally, Ahmed Shehzad voiced his concerns about the way Babar was chosen as captain. He criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for focusing solely on individual performance instead of leadership abilities. Shehzad stated, “The decision to make Babar captain was wrong. Leadership requires more than just playing well.”
Shehzad also accused Babar Azam’s social media team of shifting blame after defeats. He claimed that PR campaigns were run to protect Babar’s reputation and deflect criticism onto other players.
This isn’t the first time Ahmed Shehzad has made controversial remarks, but his candid opinions have certainly sparked conversations in the cricketing world. Whether people agree or not, his perspective sheds light on the behind-the-scenes dynamics of Pakistan cricket.
