Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced the launch of direct flights from Lahore to two stunning northern destinations—Skardu and Gilgit. This step is expected to boost tourism in these breathtaking regions, making travel easier for adventure seekers and nature lovers.
Starting from March 31, 2025, PIA will operate flights on the Lahore-Gilgit route twice a week, on Mondays and Wednesdays. Meanwhile, flights between Lahore and Skardu will be available on Thursdays and Sundays. The airline has already begun preparations to ensure smooth and hassle-free operations.
This initiative is a game-changer for travelers who previously had to take multiple flights or long road journeys to reach the northern areas. With these direct flights, tourists can now reach their destinations in a matter of hours, enjoying the comfort and reliability of PIA’s services.
PIA’s Plans to Resume UK Flights
In addition to expanding domestic routes, PIA is also gearing up to resume direct flights to the United Kingdom (UK). The airline has started making arrangements to operate from Terminal 4 at London’s Heathrow Airport.
Currently, PIA is awaiting approval from the UK government to lift the existing ban on its operations. The UK’s Department for Transport (DFT) is conducting an audit of Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), and once the process is complete, PIA is hopeful that the ban will be removed.
Once approved, PIA plans to restart direct flights from Islamabad to Manchester and London using Boeing 777 aircraft. This move will significantly benefit Pakistani travelers, especially those who frequently fly to the UK for business, family visits, or studies.

With these new developments, PIA is taking significant steps to improve its services and expand its reach.
