
Moosa Harraj, a Pakistani student at Oxford University, has made history by being elected as the President of the Oxford Union for the Michaelmas Term 2025. He is the first Pakistani-origin president from Punjab and only the fourth Pakistani to lead this prestigious debating society.
Moosa comes from a political family in Khanewal and secured a strong victory with 833 first-preference votes. His entire election team, ‘Bridge,’ also won key positions, marking a significant success for his campaign. His victory highlights the increasing global influence of Pakistani students in academic and leadership roles.
Moosa’s academic journey is equally impressive. He studied at Aitchison College in Lahore before moving to Charterhouse School in the UK. He then attended the London School of Economics (LSE) and Harvard University before joining Balliol College at Oxford in 2023 for his MPhil in Economics.
His election to the Oxford Union is a proud moment for Pakistan, adding to the country’s legacy at this prestigious platform, which has produced many influential world leaders.
