The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Higher Education Department (HED) is taking steps to provide more internship opportunities for students in different industries. This initiative aims to help students gain practical experience and improve their job prospects.
A key meeting was recently held, chaired by KP’s Higher Education Minister, Meena Khan Afridi. Officials discussed ways to expand internships for BS students in government colleges and fresh graduates. High-ranking officials, including the Special Secretary for Higher Education, Additional Secretaries, and representatives from the Youth Affairs Department, were also present.
Expanding Internship Opportunities Across KP
Government representatives have already spoken with industrialists, government institutions, and NGOs in Peshawar, Mardan, and Hazara. The response has been positive, and similar efforts are underway in other districts to provide more internship opportunities.
Minister Afridi emphasized that internships should be made mandatory according to the Higher Education Commission’s (HEC) guidelines. He also directed the department to sign an agreement with the Youth Affairs Department to ensure students from both settled areas and merged districts get equal internship opportunities.
Focus on AI and Emerging Technologies
Internships in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies are also a priority. Minister Afridi instructed the department to collaborate with the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) to develop specialized programs in these fields. This step will help students prepare for the rapidly evolving job market and stay ahead in the technology-driven world.
Aiming for Better Career Prospects
This internship expansion plan is part of the government’s broader strategy to equip students with practical skills. By working closely with industries and educational institutions, the KP government aims to ensure that students are job-ready after graduation.
With these initiatives, KP’s Higher Education Department is making significant efforts to bridge the gap between education and employment, providing young graduates with better opportunities for a successful future.
