Dubai authorities have launched a major campaign to stop begging, especially during the holy month of Ramadan. Police have increased surveillance across the city, deploying special teams to catch those asking for money on the streets.
Recently, Dubai Police arrested nine individuals found begging in public places. Officials say that beggars often disrupt public spaces, especially in crowded areas like mosques and marketplaces. To curb this issue, the government has introduced strict penalties. Anyone caught begging in Dubai now faces up to three months in jail and a fine of 5,000 dirhams.
To support this initiative, residents have been encouraged to report beggars through the “Police Eye” mobile app or by calling the 901 helpline. This effort is part of a broader campaign to discourage begging and promote legal ways to help those in need.
Dubai Police have also introduced the “Donate Wisely” campaign, urging people to contribute only to registered charities. Authorities warn that many beggars use fake stories to get money, often exploiting people’s kindness. Some are part of organized groups that operate professionally, targeting generous individuals in high-footfall areas.
Officials stress that by donating through official charities, residents can ensure their money reaches those in real need while also preventing fraudulent activities. The government aims to keep the city safe and ensure that charity goes to the right people.
