Karachi – In an inspiring chess match, young talent Mehak Maqbool, the Under-18 National Junior Chess Champion, defeated Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah. This remarkable moment highlights the growing prominence of chess among young players in Pakistan.
The chess match took place after the Chief Minister personally invited Mehak, showing his commitment to supporting intellectual sports and youth development. Mehak, a student of SMB Fatima Jinnah School under the Shahzad Roy Life Trust, recently won the national title, proving her exceptional skills in the game.
Despite Murad Ali Shah’s strong grasp of chess, Mehak managed to checkmate him in just 15 moves, a display of her sharp strategic thinking and confidence. Her victory was not only a personal achievement but also a proud moment for young chess enthusiasts across the country.
Singer and social activist Shahzad Roy, who was present at the match, praised both the Chief Minister and Mehak for their efforts. He emphasized the importance of encouraging children to take up intellectual games like chess instead of spending too much time on digital screens. He stated, “Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah is a very good player, but Mehak’s confidence and skills helped her secure a fantastic win. This is a moment of pride for us all.”
The Chief Minister’s spokesperson also acknowledged Mehak’s impressive performance and congratulated her on the victory. Her achievement is expected to inspire more young players to engage in chess and develop strategic thinking skills.
Mehak’s journey in chess is a testament to the potential of young minds when given the right opportunities. With her recent victory against a well-respected player like Murad Ali Shah, she has proven that hard work, practice, and determination can lead to great success.
