WhatsApp has introduced a new feature that allows users to convert voice messages into text. This is a helpful tool, especially when you’re in a situation where you can’t listen to a voice message, such as in a meeting, a noisy place, or when you simply prefer reading over listening.
This feature is now available in Pakistan, but users need to activate it manually. Below, we explain how to enable and use WhatsApp’s voice message transcription in a simple and easy-to-follow way.
How to Enable Voice Message Transcription on WhatsApp
To start using this feature, follow these steps:
- Update WhatsApp – First, make sure your WhatsApp is updated to the latest version. If not, go to the Google Play Store (for Android users) or the App Store (for iPhone users) and update the app.
- Open WhatsApp Settings – Open WhatsApp and tap on the three-dot menu at the top right corner of the screen. From the menu, go to Settings.
- Navigate to the Chat Settings – In the Settings section, tap on Chats and look for the option Voice Message Transcripts.
- Enable the Feature – If the option appears, simply turn it on. If you don’t see it, you may need to wait for an update as the feature is rolling out gradually.
Once you enable it, WhatsApp will ask you to download a language file that enables transcription.

Available Languages for Transcription
Currently, WhatsApp only supports voice message transcription in English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Russian. Unfortunately, Urdu and Hindi are not yet supported, but hopefully, WhatsApp will introduce them in the future.
If your messages are in English, you can easily use this feature. To enable transcriptions, you’ll need to download a language file. For example, the English language file is around 138 MB. Once downloaded, the feature will automatically transcribe voice messages sent in the selected language.
Why This Feature is Useful
- Convenience – You can read voice messages instead of listening, making it ideal for quiet environments.
- Better Understanding – If the sender speaks quickly, reading the message helps understand it better.
- No Need for Replaying – You won’t have to replay a voice message multiple times to catch every detail.
Final Thoughts
WhatsApp’s voice message transcription is a game-changer for users who prefer reading messages instead of listening. While it currently does not support Urdu, it is still a useful tool for English and other supported languages. If you haven’t received the feature yet, keep your app updated, and it should be available soon.
This feature makes WhatsApp even more user-friendly, helping people communicate more easily and efficiently. Keep an eye out for future updates as WhatsApp might expand its language support in the coming months.
