The Sindh School Education and Literacy Department has officially changed the start date of the academic year 2025-26. According to ARY News, the decision was made during a meeting of the Sindh government’s steering committee on education.
New Academic Year Start Date
The upcoming academic session will now begin on April 7, 2025, instead of the previously planned August 1, 2025. This adjustment is a major shift in the province’s educational schedule and aims to streamline the academic calendar.
Changes in Exam Schedule:
Along with the new start date, the Sindh government has also revised the board examination schedule:
- Matric (9th and 10th class) exams will be conducted in April, while practical exams will take place in March.
- Intermediate (11th and 12th class) exams will commence from April 28, 2025.
These changes will align exams more effectively with the academic calendar and improve the examination process.

Current Academic Year and Transition:
Currently, the academic year 2024-25, which started on August 1, 2024, is in progress. The new adjustments will bring a significant transition, ensuring a better-structured school year for students, teachers, and institutions.
Sindh Universities Amendment Bill 2025 Passed:
In another important development, the Sindh Assembly has passed the Sindh Universities Amendment Bill 2025 despite opposition from certain political parties. The bill had previously been sent back by Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori for reconsideration. However, the assembly reapproved it, making it mandatory for the governor to sign it under Article 116, Section 3 of the Constitution.
This new bill expands the eligibility criteria for appointing vice-chancellors in public universities, now allowing serving bureaucrats to hold the position.
The changes in Sindh’s education system, including the revised academic year schedule and examination dates, are expected to have a positive impact. The Sindh Universities Amendment Bill 2025 also marks a major shift in the province’s higher education policies.
These decisions highlight the government’s efforts to improve the education sector and bring more efficiency to the system. Students, parents, and teachers must now prepare for the new academic schedule, ensuring a smooth transition in the coming year.
