In an interesting and lighthearted story shared by veteran actress Nadia Jamil, she recalls an incident from her younger years that involved cricket legend Imran Khan, turning a stressful situation into a funny and unforgettable moment.
During a podcast, Nadia opened up about a time in her teenage years when she was out for a casual drive with her then-boyfriend, Ali Pervaiz. The couple was enjoying their time together, listening to their favorite tunes and cruising through the streets, completely unaware of what was about to happen next. Without warning, they were stopped by the infamous special police squad under President Zia-ul-Haq’s regime. This squad was notorious for checking on couples, demanding proof of their marriage, such as a Nikkah Nama (marriage certificate), to ensure they were legitimate.
Feeling panicked and unsure of what to do, Nadia decided to reach out to her uncle, Yousaf Salahuddin, for help. She didn’t want to involve her father, fearing how he might react. But, as fate would have it, her father was attending the same gathering where her uncle was hosting some guests.

To Nadia’s surprise, a “rescue team” of five people, including her father, uncle, and Imran Khan, came to her aid at the police station. The presence of the legendary cricketer seemed to work wonders on the police officers, who were starstruck and eager to accommodate him. In no time, they served Imran Khan tea and allowed the matter to be resolved without further trouble, freeing Nadia and Ali to go on their way.
Years later, Imran Khan humorously brought up the story, telling Nadia with a smile, “You’re a good kid—you actually married that boy.”
This amusing incident showcases the unexpected ways Imran Khan played a role in helping Nadia during a nerve-wracking situation. While the moment brings smiles today, it also highlights a sense of irony, given that Imran Khan, who once helped Nadia in her time of need, is now facing his own struggles, currently being held in Adiala Jail due to political reasons.
