The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) recently stopped 10 individuals at Karachi Airport who were reportedly involved in begging in Saudi Arabia under the guise of performing Umrah. These individuals had been deported from Saudi Arabia after being caught begging, according to ARY News.
Who Were the Arrested Individuals?
The group arrested included Shah Nawaz, Afsar Ali, Mujtahid Hussain, Muhammad Adil, Rahib Ali, Zamir Hussain, Wasid, Sheraz Khan, Mubeen Ali Solangi, and Khuda Bukhsh. They came from various cities in Pakistan, such as Rajanpur, Kashmore, Naushahro Feroze, Lahore, Peshawar, Mohmand, and Larkana.
How Were They Caught?
The suspects had traveled to Saudi Arabia on Umrah visas, planning to carry out religious duties. Instead, they were caught engaging in begging activities for months. After Saudi authorities deported them for their actions, FIA Immigration officials apprehended them upon their return at Karachi Airport. They are now facing further legal action with the Anti-Human Trafficking Circle.
FIA’s Continued Efforts to Prevent Begging Abroad
This case highlights FIA’s continued crackdown on people trying to exploit religious visas for illegal purposes. In a similar case earlier, three women were stopped by FIA at Karachi Airport while attempting to travel to Saudi Arabia for the same reason. These women had no return tickets or hotel bookings, raising suspicion. It turned out they had already been stopped at Lahore Airport for similar issues.
The Government’s Efforts Against Overseas Begging
To combat this growing problem, the Pakistani government is exploring stricter measures to criminalize begging abroad. The goal is to protect the country’s image and ensure that individuals don’t misuse religious travel opportunities.
The FIA continues to monitor airports closely to prevent individuals from using Umrah visas for illegal activities. Authorities are advising all travelers to comply with the rules to avoid serious consequences and protect the integrity of religious journeys.
