In a bold move to provide affordable housing for the low-income residents of Punjab, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has set an ambitious goal to build at least 20,000 houses within just one month. This initiative is part of the “Apni Chhat-Apna Ghar” scheme, which promises free plots to homeless individuals across the province. The Chief Minister has called for fast action on this project to help those in need, ensuring that many families will soon have a place to call home.
The Apni Chhat-Apna Ghar scheme was reviewed in a special meeting on Tuesday, where the Chief Minister closely examined the progress of the project. The goal is to provide affordable housing solutions for the people who are currently without homes. To achieve this, the government has been working on various housing schemes that include three and five-marla plots, with the aim of providing homes to the most vulnerable members of society.
To speed up the construction process, a new committee has been formed. This eight-member team will work on finalizing the plans and terms for providing free plots. They will ensure that the process runs smoothly and efficiently, allowing the construction of 20,000 houses to be completed by the end of February.
The government has already begun work on various housing projects across Punjab. In fact, 2,807 plots in 35 different schemes are already under development in 22 districts. In addition, 1,119 plots in nine other schemes across seven districts are also in progress. The Chief Minister has given clear instructions to fast-track the development of these areas, focusing on finishing them as quickly as possible.
To help achieve this goal, the government has already taken significant steps. Loans amounting to Rs8.20 billion have been given to people for the construction of their homes, with 2,050 individuals receiving their second loan installment. These efforts aim to support the housing needs of low-income families and ensure that they are able to build homes for themselves.
Since the launch of the Apni Chhat-Apna Ghar scheme, more than 0.728 million citizens have visited the scheme’s official website, showing the widespread interest in this initiative. Over 400,000 applications have already been submitted with complete documentation, further proving the high demand for affordable housing in the region.
The Chief Minister has emphasized that despite the challenges, the government is committed to reaching the goal of constructing 100,000 houses each year. The efforts underway in Punjab are part of a larger plan to ensure that more people have access to secure, affordable housing.
With the commitment of the government and the hard work of the officials, the dream of affordable homes for many low-income families is becoming a reality. The quick pace of progress on these projects reflects the government’s determination to meet the needs of the people and provide them with a better standard of living.
By prioritizing these housing schemes, the Punjab government is not only addressing the immediate needs of the homeless but also creating a long-term solution for the province’s housing crisis. As work continues on these projects, it is expected that many more people will soon have a safe, comfortable home to live in, marking a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to improve the quality of life for its citizens.
This initiative is just one of many steps the Punjab government is taking to ensure that all its citizens have access to basic necessities, including affordable housing. By staying committed to these plans and working towards their successful completion, Punjab is setting a powerful example for other regions to follow, proving that rapid progress and social development can go hand in hand.
