A traveler heading to Qatar faced a surprising turn of events at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport when security discovered 13 bullets hidden in his laptop bag. The incident occurred during the final security screening before boarding the flight.
The passenger, identified as Shan Sadiq, is a resident of Walton and works as a traffic assistant for Qatar Airways in Doha. He was set to travel on Qatar Airways flight QR-621 when the Airport Security Force (ASF) flagged the ammunition during the scanning process.
The bullets, identified as 9mm, raised serious concerns as Sadiq could not provide a valid license for them. According to the First Information Report (FIR), he explained that the bullets belonged to his father’s licensed firearm and had accidentally been left in the bag. However, carrying ammunition without proper authorization is a violation of security protocols.
Interestingly, the bullets went undetected during earlier security checks and immigration processes. It was only during the final inspection that ASF personnel identified the ammunition. Following the discovery, Sadiq was handed over to the Sarwar Road Police Station, where a case was registered under Section 13-2a of the 1965 Arms Act.
The authorities are now investigating the incident to determine if there was any malicious intent or if it was truly an honest mistake. Regardless of the explanation, carrying ammunition at an airport is considered a serious offense and poses a significant security risk.
This incident highlights the importance of thoroughly checking personal belongings before traveling, especially for items that could be classified as prohibited or dangerous. Travelers are reminded to adhere to all security protocols to avoid unnecessary complications or legal issues.
The case has garnered attention due to its unusual nature, and further updates are awaited as the investigation progresses.
