The Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad has achieved a major milestone by introducing advanced modular operation theatres. This development marks a significant step forward in modernizing healthcare in Pakistan, as PIMS is now the first government medical facility in the country to have such state-of-the-art medical infrastructure.
According to recent reports, seven modular operation theatres have been set up at PIMS, equipped with the latest medical technologies to provide high-quality surgical care. The Ministry of Health has confirmed that these advanced theatres come with a host of modern features, including advanced sterilization systems, audio-video recording tools for precise surgery monitoring, and wireless cameras to enhance procedural accuracy.
The project, which cost approximately Rs1.4 billion, was funded to improve the hospital’s surgical capabilities. The modular theatres were imported from Germany and are uniquely designed to be portable, meaning they can be relocated if needed. Additionally, they are equipped with backup batteries to ensure uninterrupted functionality during power outages and feature a temperature-controlled system for medical gases, ensuring an optimal environment for surgeries.
The inauguration of these theatres is expected to take place later this week, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif scheduled to officially open the new facilities.
PIMS, established in 1985, is one of the leading healthcare institutions in the country. It includes three semi-autonomous hospitals: the Islamabad Hospital, with a capacity of 592 beds, the Children’s Hospital, which specializes in pediatric care with 230 beds, and the Maternal & Child Health Care Center, focused on obstetrics and gynecology with 125 beds.
This upgrade to modular operation theatres is a significant step towards enhancing healthcare services at PIMS. It reflects the government’s commitment to improving medical facilities for the public and ensuring access to modern healthcare technologies.
With these developments, PIMS is set to provide better and more efficient surgical care, benefiting countless patients and setting a new standard for government hospitals in Pakistan.
