
England secured a strong win against Pakistan in the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup at the Johor Cricket Academy Oval, Malaysia, on Monday. The English team chased a modest target of 67 runs in just 9.2 overs, marking their first victory in the tournament.
Pakistan, who gained one point earlier due to a washed-out game against the USA, now stands third in Group B, with Ireland in fourth place.
After being invited to bat first, Pakistan struggled from the start, losing wickets consistently. The team managed to score only 66 runs before being bowled out in 18.5 overs. Key contributions came from Zoofishan Ayyaz, who scored 15 runs from 13 balls, hitting two boundaries, and captain Komal Khan, who added 12 runs off 25 balls, also hitting two fours.
England’s bowlers were outstanding, with Amuruthaa Surenkumar leading the attack and taking 3 wickets for 17 runs. Tilly Corteen-Coleman and Olivia Brinsden also played crucial roles, picking up two wickets each to restrict Pakistan’s batting lineup.
In reply, England faced some early pressure as they were reduced to 33-4. However, a steady partnership between Katie Jones and captain Abigale Norgrove turned the game around. Katie Jones, who was named Player of the Match, remained unbeaten on 20 runs off 16 balls, including a four and a six. Abigale Norgrove supported her well, scoring 14 runs off 9 balls with two boundaries. Together, they built a 34-run partnership that ensured a smooth finish for England.
On Pakistan’s side, Mahnoor Zeb claimed two wickets, while Fatima Khan and Quratulain Ahsen each took one wicket.
